Luster – Don’t Need You

Los Angeles band Luster returns after eight months of silence with “Don’t Need You”, their first track of 2026 on Funeral Party Records. The shoegaze group went quiet after dropping two songs on consecutive days last April, making this comeback feel deliberate rather than rushed.

The track moves at an agile tempo, with guitars that expand outward while the rhythm section holds steady underneath. Vocals blend into the mix as texture rather than a focal point, which works for their sound. Nick Bassett handled mixing and mastering, giving the song definition without losing its hazy quality. Luster self-produced.

“Don’t Need You” shows a clearer structure than some of their earlier work. The rhythmic contrasts are more pronounced, and the song maintains energy through its runtime without getting lost in atmosphere alone. They’re still working within shoegaze territory, but there’s more intention in how the pieces fit together.

No word yet on whether this is a standalone single or part of something larger. For now, it’s a solid return that suggests the band spent their time away figuring out what they wanted to say next.
